Zofia Stryjeńska
1891–1976Born in Kraków in 1891. In 1911 she enrolled at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts disguised as a man, Tadeusz Grzymała Lubański, because the academy did not admit women.
At the 1925 International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris she received five awards, which placed her among the leading Art Deco artists. The editor Mieczysław Grydzewski called her "the princess of Polish art". She died in Geneva in 1976.
